Meghan's Story
"Autism doesn't define anyone. Embrace your quirks. Period." |
Meghan Amanda was diagnosed with Asperger's and Nonverbal Learning Disorder at age 5. She was put on a gluten free diet which she still follows today. At age 9, Meghan asked her mom why she seemed "weird". Meghan was devastated and became anxious and partly suicidal. She was put on anxiety medication, but less than a year later, she was severely bullied and was depressed, but this time, seriously almost killed herself. Yet Meghan still held herself like she was okay. "People would ask me how are you doing and I'd say "I'm fine." To me it was easier than explaining why I was sad" Meghan says on her depression.
Meghan was that way on and off until earlier this year. She decided that instead of death, she was going to control her life. "Music was the only therapy I responded to really well" Meghan says. "I never had music therapy but I still loved music from a really young age."
